The Heritage & Nature Center is a replica of the original rock house built on Richland Creek by Mercer Reynolds Sr. in the 1930s. It was completed and opened to the public in July 2006, not only as a reminder of the original "linger longer" appeal, but also as an education center focused on sharing the local history, culture, and wildlife of the Lake Oconee area. The Heritage & Nature Center hosts many exhibits and displays and is home to live local animals such as fish, frogs, turtles and snakes. The Heritage & Nature Center also leads and sponsors a variety of events and excursions for the Reynolds Plantation community, both young and old alike.
